드라큘라 부동의 인기 1위!
An oldie but a goodie, Dracula has come out on top of
a list of history's most famous vampires conducted
by the science fiction magazine SFX.
In the popularity contest, the Transylvanian blood-sucker
beat out the vampires from the Twilight saga,
as well as other popular vampire programs like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Italian food seeks Unesco status
이탈리아 음식, 유네스코 등재 원한다

Italy is campaigning to get its food acknowledged by Unesco.
Italian food is said to be low in fat and high in fibre,
and its supporters say it can help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. 
The jury will be out until November, when a committee will rule on the topic.

이탈리아가 유네스코의 세계유산문화에 자국 음식을 등재하기위한 홍보활동에
나서고 있습니다. 홍보자들은 칼로리는 낮고 섬유질이 풍부하다고 알려진
이탈리아 음식이 심장병과 암의 발병률을 낮추는데도 도움이 된다고 말합니다.
유네스코에서 본 사안에 대해 등재권고 판정을 내리면,
11월까지 세계유산 등재 여부를 알 수 있게 됩니다.

Tiger Woods divorce estimates begin
타이거 우즈, 위자료 계산 시작

Only those most closely associated with the case really know,
the estimates are coming in from all corners on
just how much Tiger Woods will pay his wife Elin Nordegren
in the settlement. The pair will split custody of their kids, and
estimates of the money amount have ranged from 100 million U.S. dollars
all the way up to the  implausible 750 million dollars.

진위여부는 최측근만이 알겠지만, 타이거 우즈가 배우자 엘린 노르데그렌에게
위자료로 얼만큼의 액수를 지불할 것인가를 놓고, 온갖 추측이 난무하고 있습니다.
우즈 부부는 이혼 후, 공동양육권을 갖는 것으로 합의했고,
(부인 측) 위자료는 미화 1억 달러로 이야기되고 있지만, 최고액의 경우,
7억5천만 달러(약 8947억원)이 될 수도 있다는 루머도 나오고 있습니다.

"Looking-glass, Looking-glass, on the wall, Who in this land is
the fairest of all?"
“거울아, 벽에 걸린 거울아, 이 나라에서 가장 아름다운 건 누구지?”

The looking-glass answered, "You, Queen, are the fairest of all!"
거울은 대답했다. “여왕, 당신이 가장 아름답다!”

Then she was satisfied, for she knew that the looking-glass spoke the truth. But Snow-white was

growing up, and grew more and more beautiful;
and when she was seven years old she was more beautiful than the Queen herself.

여왕은 거울이 진실을 이야기한다는 것을 알고 있기 때문에 그 대답에 만족했다.
그러나 백설공주는 자라나면서 더더욱 아름다워졌고,
일곱 살이 되었을 때 여왕보다도 더 예뻐졌다.

And once when the Queen asked her looking-glass,
"Looking-glass, Looking-glass, on the wall,
Who in this land is the fairest of all?"

그러던 어느 날 여왕이 거울에게 물었다.
"거울아, 벽에 걸린 거울아, 이 나라에서 가장 아름다운 건 누구지?”

The magic mirror answered - "You are fairer than all who are here,
Lady Queen. But more beautiful still is Snow-white, as I ween."
Then the Queen was shocked, and turned yellow and green with envy.

마법의 거울이 대답했다. “여왕이여, 당신은 여기 있는 그 어느 누구보다 아름답다.
그러나 거울 생각에 백설공주가 더 아름답다.“
이 말에 여왕은 충격을 받았고, 시기심 때문에 얼굴이 붉으락푸르락해졌다.

The old woman said, "There, I will give you one of my apples."
"No," said Snow-white, "I dare not take anything."
"Are you afraid of poison?" said the old woman;
"look, I will cut the apple in two pieces; you eat the red cheek, and I will eat  the white." The apple

was so cunningly made that only the red cheek was poisoned.

노파가 말했다. “자, 여기 사과 하나 줄게.”
“됐어요, 전 아무 것도 받으면 안 돼요.” 백설공주가 말했다.
“혹시 독이 들었을까봐 그래?” 노파가 말했다.
“자, 내가 사과를 반으로 자를게. 네가 빨간 쪽을 먹고, 내가 흰 쪽을 먹으마.“
사과는 교묘하게도 빨간 쪽에만 독이 들어있었다.

Snow-white longed for the fine apple and when she saw
that the woman ate part of it she could resist no longer,
and  stretched out her hand and took the poisonous half.
But hardly had she a bit of it in her mouth than she fell down dead.
Then the Queen looked at her with a dreadful look,
and laughed aloud and said,

예쁜 사과가 먹고 싶었던 백설공주는 노파가 사과 한쪽을 먹는 것을 보자
더 이상 거절하지 못 하고 손을 뻗어 독이 든 반쪽을 받았다.
그러나 사과를 한 입 먹기가무섭게, 백설공주는 쓰러져 죽고말았다.
여왕은 백설공주의 얼굴에 무시무시한 기운이 드리운 것을 보고,
큰 소리로 웃으며 말했다.

"White as snow, red as blood, black as ebony wood!
This time, the dwarfs cannot wake you up again."

"눈처럼 하얀 피부, 피처럼 빨간 입술, 흑단처럼 까만 머리?!
이번엔 일곱 난쟁이들도 널 살려내지 못할 것이다!“

The prince had the coffin carried away by his servants on their shoulders.
And it happened that they stumbled over a tree-stump,
and with the shock the poisonous piece of apple
which Snow-white had bitten off came out of her throat.

왕자는 시종을 시켜 유리관을 어깨에 짊어지고 가게 했다.
시종들이 길을 가던 중에 나무 그루터기에 발부리가 걸려 비틀거렸을 때였다.
그 충격으로 백설공주의 목에 걸려있던 사과조각이 튀어나온 것이었다.
     
And before long she opened her eyes, lifted up the lid of the  coffin,
sat up, and was once more alive. "Oh, heavens, where am I?" she cried.
The  prince, full of joy, said,

눈을 뜬 백설공주는 유리관의 뚜껑을 열고 일어나 앉았고, 다시금 기력을 되찾았다.
“어머나, 여기가 어디야?” 백설공주가 외치자,  왕자가 더할 나위 없이 기뻐하며 대답했다.

"You are with me," and told her what had happened, and said,
"I love you more than everything in the world; come with me
to my father's palace, you shall be my wife."

"내가 당신 옆에 있어요,“ 왕자는 백설공주에게 그간 있었던 일을 얘기해준 후 말했다.
“이 세상 어떤 것보다 그대를 사랑하오. 자, 나와 함께 우리 아버지의 궁전으로 갑시다.
당신은 내 아내가 될 것이오.“
